2015 Outlook Strong for Construction in KC

The New Year always brings the promise of not only a new start but also the hope of good things to come. When it comes to the construction jobs market in Kansas City, the future continues to grow brighter as the area finds steady footing in the economic recovery. Even for those who are not directly involved in the construction industry, it’s easy to see that our area is hopping with evidence of the continuing growth visible on both sides of State Line. In the downtown and Crossroad areas alone, construction is playing a major role in a growing number of retrofits and renovations to house Kanas City’s growing entrepreneurial communities and many are looking forward to this year’s completion of the streetcar line that will run from the City Market to Union Station.

Continued growth through construction, not to mention a highly exciting run for the World Series last year, has made Kansas City a place to not only watch but to also become a part of. This outlook was further strengthened by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 economic forecast. The optimistically titled report “Prospects Brighten” quantified the area’s excitement regarding job and construction growth in the area.

As of the publication of the report, this year’s construction growth was projected to be ahead of what was seen last year with an added expectations for 19,300 jobs. If that wasn’t enough, the home buying market is finally regaining some traction after a number of slow years and associated low consumer purchasing, a boost directly attributed to better finances and continuing consumer confidence. The 2015 Housing Market Forecast also predicted continued strength in the labor market, according to information compiled by Wichita State University’s annual report from the W. Frank Barton School of Business Center for Real Estate.
