Second Quarter Staffing Employment at 18-Year High

The American Staffing Association’s Staffing Employment and Sales Survey discovered that staffing companies in the United States employed an average of 3.2 million people in temporary and contract positions per week in the second quarter of 2018. This is the largest number of people employed in any second quarter since 2000. Q2 2018 also marks the largest year-to-year growth for any quarter in more than three years, with a 2.3 percent increase in staffing employment from this same quarter last year.

Temporary and contract staffing sales for the second quarter were up 4.3 percent from the second quarter of 2017. Sales totaled $34.6 billion in the second quarter.

On a quarter-to-quarter basis, staffing employment was up from the first quarter of 2018 by 3.1 percent. Sales increased 5.3 percent from the first quarter of 2018.
